County Cup: London Bees 1 – 3 AFC Wimbledon

The Dons finished off a hectic week with an incredible 3-1 victory away to London Bees at the Hive in the County Cup. Wimbledon went into the game against London Bees who are in a division above the Dons having to make several changes to their starting xi due to having a growing injury list with several u23s receiving the call up to join the senior squad. The Bees went into the game at near enough full strength.

Wimbledon got off to a great start when Ashee Hincks converted from a Chloe Sampson cross to give the Dons a deserved lead after only 10 minutes. The Dons looked determined to double their lead as quickly as possible and sure enough they did when Sarah Wentworth headed home from Ashlee Hincks’ corner to put the Dons in a great position with only 18 minutes gone. Ashlee Hincks made it 3-0 just before half time after a stunning freekick from 30 yards flew into the top corner to kill the game off. The second half saw London Bees come out to try and mount a comeback however it was the Dons who continued to have the better of the chances. With the game in control the Dons brought on Szofia Siber for her debut joining her twin Gloria who was making her first start for the Dons after returning from International duty with Hungary U19s with Szofia also representing Hungary u19s during the international break. A few minutes after the Szofia’s arrival it was time for another Dons debut as Roxie Fowler joined her sister Angel on the pitch. As the Dons were closing in on what looked like a deserved clean sheet London Bees scored a consolation goal with what was pretty much the final kick of the game.

First team coach Andy May said “It was a really pleasing performance, we set the girls a couple of targets about what we do out of possession and the pleasing thing was the girls displayed those behaviours that we asked from them”
