AFC Wimbledon 2 – 0 Actonians

AFC Wimbledon Women got back to winning ways on Wednesday night under the lights at Plough Lane to extended our unbeaten league run to 7 months. We went into the game against Actonians on the back of consecutive goaless draws against league leaders Hashtag and on the road to Harlow. Having drawn in the reverse fixture at Actonians earlier this season we knew it was going to be a tough test.

The Dons had some positive news before the game as Ashlee Hincks was cleared to start the game having recovered from an injury that had kept her out of the side for the last couple of weeks. The first half saw both teams carrying attacking intent with some great link up play between the Dons front three of Ashlee Hincks, Chloe Sampson and Katie Stanley causing Actonians problems on a regular basis but Wimbledon needed some fine defending from Hannah Billingham and a good save from Faye Baker to ensure that it was goalless at Half time.

The second half started in much the same way with the Dons back 4 bing called on on a regular basis to keep the score level however as the half went on Wimbledon began to dominate. The Dons got their opening goal from a freekick about 25 yards out with who else but Ashlee Hincks putting Wimbledon in front. Ashlee doubled her tally in the closing minutes of the game as Actonians were caught on the counter attack. The brace from Ashlee means the Dons got all 3 points and moved her onto 37 goals this season in 28 games. The clean sheet our 7th in a row in the league means we still have the best defensive record in the league.

Wimbledon are back at Plough Lane on Sunday 10th of April with Harlow Town visiting with kickoff scheduled for 2pm. Keep your eyes on our social media for more information regarding tickets. Before this game the Dons are back on the road as we travel to Cambridge United on Sunday with the game due to be played at St Neots Town kicking off at 2pm.
